Energy Assistance Programs

Everyone deserves access to basic needs

The Energy Assistance program is designed to assist qualified, low-income households with a one-time per year subsidy to help meet a home’s heating needs, regardless of the heat source (wood natural gas, electric, propane, oil, or pellets).

Please note: Assistance is limited to one time a year per household. Funding is limited and we are not able to serve everyone who applies. Community Connection has a priority system in place for seniors and disabled households.

These are not emergency programs. If you are going to have your utility disconnected or have a shut-off notice, please call your local Community Connection office. We may be able to provide you with other emergency programs.

If your need is immediate, we recommend calling instead of filling out an online inquiry form.

What is energy assistance?

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally-funded program. The purpose is to assist qualified, low-income households with a one-time per year subsidy to help in meeting the home heating needs regardless of the heat source (wood, natural gas, electric, propane, oil, or pellets). Depending on what county you live in and what utilities you use, there are other state and local programs you may qualify for.

Assistance is limited to one time a year per household.

What are the eligibility guidelines?

There are separate qualifying parameters for the energy and water assistance programs. Please check the links below for details on each program:

What happens after you’ve applied?

A self-sufficiency coordinator will call you for your energy appointment, Monday thru Friday, between 9am and 4pm. Depending on the volume of applications, it could be up to 90 days after applying before we contact you for an appointment. If your contact information changes, it is your responsibility to call and update us with your new information. If the self-sufficiency coordinator is unable to reach you by phone, after three attempts over at least three business days, you may lose your appointment slot.
