Union County Public Transit

Connecting All Towns (CAT) in Union County

When can I ride?

CAT Link services are offered on specific days in different areas. In Union and Cove, you can use the service on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while in Elgin, Imbler, and Summerville, it’s available on Wednesdays and Fridays. The service runs from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. However, please note that there is no service on Mondays. So, if you need a ride, make sure your pickup time falls between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm on the days when the service is available. For instance, if you work in Elgin and want to travel back home, you should leave La Grande no later than 4:30 pm to arrive home around 5:00 pm.

Who can ride?

Anyone living in Union County is eligible to ride under this program. While there is no restriction on trip purpose, if your trip is eligible for another program such as Brokered Medication Transportation (GOBHI), you will be moved over to that program instead. There are no restrictions for program use based on your physical address, age, disability, or any other type of class. However, your trip must begin and end in Union County.

Everyone rides for FREE on this service, but ride schedulers need to know the number of passengers at the time the trip is scheduled to ensure an appropriately sized vehicle is sent to pick you up.

How do I schedule a ride?

Rides are scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis, as driver capacity allows. So, while the absolute deadline for scheduling a trip is no later than 3 pm the day before your trip, we highly encourage you to schedule your trip several days in advance. This service requires that all legs of the trip be scheduled and cannot accommodate a will-call (or flexible time) trip, as it will typically be traveling around the entire county throughout the day.

If you have more than one stop in La Grande during your day, the first drop will be performed by the CAT Link service, but then you must transfer to the Deviated Fixed Route. You may still schedule your Deviated Fixed Route trips on a will-call basis, but your final return trip on the CAT Link will remain a scheduled time. Please plan your errands accordingly.

If you need to cancel a ride, we ask for 24 hours’ notice so we can make your spot available to someone else, and/or prevent the driver from leaving the Public Transit Hub for a ride that will not be performed.

How do I transfer services?

If you are brought in on CAT Link but have multiple stops interspersed throughout the day you must use our Deviated Fixed Route Program. To take advantage of that service, you must speak with the dispatcher while scheduling your CAT Link ride to schedule the Deviated Fixed Route bus to your location. From there you will travel on the Deviated Fixed Route until you reach your destination.
